Speculaas and St. Nicholas go hand in hand

Historically speculaas often is served on the 5th and 6th of December to celebrate St. Nicholas’ Day.

St. Nicholas was a holy man who lived in the 3rd century and dedicated his life to giving money and gifts to the poor. Nowadays St. Nicholas (Sinterklaas) is celebrated in Holland, Belgium, Germany and parts of the US by giving presents to children. Speculaas is still a popular present today.
